Red Fraggle/Hercules- OTP!

Fortunately, the title of this post does not refer to the dream I had. XP

Here's a dream I had on the 4th: I was...somewhere, visiting, I guess, and staying in house-castle thing. It had two towers and looked to be made of stone. I can't compare the exterior to the interior, because in dream I only saw it from outside. There was a part of the dream where I was outside on the sidewalk, headed somewhere or maybe jogging and trying to avoid dogs. I overheard someone else talking about the place I was staying in. At some point I saw a photo of the house/castle, and it did look pretty spooky.

Book-related stuff: Finished The Lions of Al-Rassan. It was better than Tigana. I think. I may not remember Tigana all that well.^^;

Random internet stuff:

The Original Fiction Mary-Sue Litmus Test
Having recently finished The Lions of Al-Rassan, I ran Ammar ibn Khairan through this. The other two main characters are also rather brilliant, but at least they stick to *one* field of expertise.^^; I decided I might as well do some other characters while I was at it. Off the top of my had, I was able to think of Jaenelle from The Black Jewels Trilogy(Sue-iest of them all), Phedre from the Kushiel books, Tohru from Fruits Basket (anime version, as I've only read the first volume of the manga), Lestat from The Vampire Chronicles, and a couple of RPG female leads- Yuna from FFX and Aeris from FF7.

Tohru did the best- she scored 23, making her a "Borderline-Sue." Ammar, Yuna, and Aeris are also Borderline, with 27, 34 and 29 points respectively. Phedre and Lestat are solid Mary-Sues, with 44 points each. Jaenelle scored a whopping 73 points, attaining the rank of "Irredeemable-Sue." XD

Still, *still* alive

Yeah, it's been forever. Nothin' more to say about that. :P

Here's a dream I have been too lazy to even write down (and once I post this I'll have even less incentive to write it down^^;): I was in an amusement park/fair type place for the beginning part. I'm not sure what happened afterwards, because then the dream turned into some kind of..."war against insects." Except, it wasn't actually insects, but other people who were throwing grapes at us. Well, it wasn't exactly "throwing." The grapes were rolling on the ground towards us. We (and by "we" I mean the random people on my side, no one in particular) didn't find the grapes to be much of a threat and stomped on them as they rolled towards us. Then the other side started throwing some larger fruit, apples I think. Then melons and squash. It was harder to stomp on those; it was a challenge just to dodge them. I think some of my comrades stopped to eat the squash. They were gathered around a little table that had been set up off to the side, and they might have been trying to to cook the squash there. Then in another part of the dream, or maybe a new part, I was eating shoestring potato chips. I ended up eating the whole can, and I felt bad because of that. Then I woke up and realized I hadn't eaten a whole can of shoestring potato chips, and felt better. XD

Other stuff: Gankutsuou owns. At the start the anime followed the Count of Monte Cristo more closely, but later it diverges from the novel. Really, really diverges. I don't know how it's all going to turn out in the end. Albert, Franz, and Eugenie are all pretty likeable. Franz is my favorite character so far, though with several episodes left that could change. Aaaah...I just watched episode 18...

Currently reading The Lions of Al-Rassan by Guy Gavriel Kay. I like it; I'm not amazed by it but it's a good read. I think I like it more than Tigana, actually.

Escape from the Backyard

In this dream, I was hiding in a house's backyard with a few other people. They may or may not have been people I know in real life. We had some ally at the house. An enemy of ours had come to the house, possibly looking for us. Hence the reason for our hiding. We were crouched down and I hoped we weren't visible from the window. I think we were waiting for a good opportunity to dash off to safety.

This next bit is actually a dream. I've just finished reading the Farseer Trilogy (by Robin Hobb), so that's what I was thinking of as I was lying in bed trying to sleep. And then sometime later, I *woke up* thinking about the Farseer books. I don't mean I woke up then started thinking about the books. I woke up thinking about the books. No dream in between that I can recall. Farseer, sleep, Farseer/wake.

Going off from the Farseer thing: I really liked the books, but wouldn't call them favorites. Although the Fool just might end up being one of my favorite characters ever. Now I'm all eager for The Tawny Man, but I'm going to read the Liveship books first. What with school in session now, who knows how long it'll take for me to finish. Or next get to a book store, seeing as there's none I can walk to.^^;

Naruto X-mas

I had this dream some days ago and now I have the opportunity to post it while it's still Christmas. XD

This was a Naruto-related dream. I dreamed up some kind of Naruto Christmas special (not that they'd have any reason to celebrate Christmas in Konoha XD). There was a family consisting of a mother, a father, and a son. All three had funny long noses and I guess they were ninja, although they definitely weren't any existing characters. They had a Christmas tree in their living room and every so often the doorbell would ring and the son would go answer it. They were having a Christmas party. I remember Lee, Ino, and Neji arriving in sucession within seconds of each other. I think they were wearing sweaters. Ino's hair was different; it was still in a ponytail but instead of the lock hanging down in front she had these sort of bangs. I think all the party guests were canon Naruto characters, although I can't remember exactly who was there. I think Naruto and Iruka among them.

Rather than having the "episode" end on warm fuzzies, at the end there was a cut to Orochimaru in...some secret place. He was talking to Sakon (at least I think that's his name...the two-headed one^^;)and some kind of evil villain type plotting was going on.

That's it for that dream. I recently got Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and as usually happens when I play games, I dreamed about playing it. But I can't remember anything specific about it. It may or may not have been part of this other dream that I will attempt to piece together into something coherent later. I haven't been making any progress with KH: CoM. I'm nearing the end with Sora, but there's a boss I just can't beat. I don't think leveling up will help much in this game (and I know my friend beat the game with her Sora several levels below my Sora) but I think I'll try leveling anyway. If nothing else, Sora will last slightly longer in battle.^^;

Other stuff: Started reading Robin Hobb's Farseer Trilogy. Well, more than just "started" as I am now more than halfway through the second book. Pretty good read. Novels with a first person narrator are so different from those with a third person, ever present not-person narrator. Maybe they get you rooting for the main character more, if only because the main character is the one telling the story to you. I find it harder to describe the personality of the main character if the book is in first person. I think that's connected to how the main character is the one relating the story- the reader experiences is from his or her perspective directly.

Grossed out + Count

Whoa...I need to post something, it's been too long.^^; This'll be short, but I don't want to go too long between posts...

Last night I dreamed I saw an ant in the bathroom. I squashed it, but of course you never see just one ant. I noticed more and more ants, and I knocked over a cup and saw a couple of spiders clinging to the inside. I tried to knock the spiders off into the sink, but they wouldn't fall off. Then I noticed these little tan-ish colored centipede-like things. I kept noticing more and more bugs, until I realized there was a writhing mass of bugs on the wall. The centipedes grossed me out most of all. x_X; In real life, I keep finding ants in the bathroom, so I guess that's where the dream comes from.^^;

Anime stuff I'm following: My new must-see series is Gankutsuou. It's the Count of Monte Cristo, but the story has been moved to a futuristic setting. I'd been meaning to read the novel, so after seeing the first few episodes I went and read it before watching any more. It's fun to see how the anime is different from the book (but still more true to the book than the movie version I saw XD), and the animation style is like nothing I've ever seen before. *_*

I also reccomend Fantastic Children. I think this series is going to be pretty good, and it's...different. Yes, that's a terribly non-descriptive word, I'm sorry. I feel like I'm the only person watching this series.^^; Somehow, it feels...nostalgic? That's not really the word I'm looking for. Fantastic Children stirs up these feelings...it draws on...oh man, watch it and fill in the blank yourself. If I attempt to explain coherency will desert me anyway.^^;

There's also Miene Liebe. Pretty boys to fangirl over. I mean, it's based on a dating sim for girls. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up so far. I thought episode 4 was actually pretty nice. Ladies, don't think about it, just sit back and enjoy. XD Actually, I'm not giving this show enough credit, it's better than I expected. Might even turn out to be pretty good with the way things are going. It's just...the melodrama can be kind of amusing. ^_^;

End of the Universe

I was standing in what looked kind of like a train station. In outer space. It wasn't the empty black with starts screensaver style outer space, but black with lots of colorful, dynamic...outer space type phenomena?^^; The only other person with me was a woman. I think she was dressed in a long flowing robe. I asked her if we were at the End of the Universe (more like "edge" than "end," but the word "end" was the one used), and she replied in the affirmative. Somehow I felt it was wrong, disappointing perhaps, that this was all there was at the End of the Universe.

These dreams probably say something about me, but I sure can't figure out what.

First off: I was at Borders in the graphic novels section. There were these other manga-related things on the shelves too. Maybe art books and figurines. Most of the actual manga was gone and the shelves hadn't been restocked yet. I was looking for the next volume of The Demon Ororon, but they only had the first. I considered buying a little Saiyuki figurine. I remember it as a little blue thing that didn't look even vaguely like a figure, much less an actual character, but in the dream it was somehow a Saiyuki figurine. Apparently it contained an mp3 within it. My friend told me to just buy the CD single instead. The CD was on the shelf, wrapped in plastic, not in a case. So I bought the CD. That's about it for that exciting dream.
I dream about book stores a lot. I don't know what signifies, other than "I like book stores." ^^; Oh, and usually in these book store dreams I'm looking for something and can't find it.

The next dream is one I had during a nap I took in between classes. I was with friends and I think we were going to a zoo or something. The zoo was sort of indoors and sort of outdoors. I'm not sure how to explain it better. There was also light-colored hardwood floors and walls. And there were some plants around too. And the animals weren't visible. As we were walking along, we saw a large escaped animal jump out and run off. I think more animals had escaped too, and my friends and I started running away. Well, I guess we weren't running away *from* anything, but we ran off as if we were. One friend went in the same direction as me and the others went in the opposite direction. I looked back at them and wondered if I should follow them, but I kept on in the direction I was running. I felt a pang of guilt, but I'm not sure why. My friend and I reached an auditorium or high school gym type place, where a lot of other people were gathering. There were some authority type official guys there to keep things organized. I think we were all "hiding" or something. Maybe from the escaped animals, although it may not have been a zoo anymore at this point. We met up with my friend's family here. Somehow my friend got seperated from us though. We all went to look for her, but we couldn't really go anywhere (because the other places were blocked off?) so we ended up walking around and hoping she'd find us. And then we were walking around in what looked like the interior of a ship. My friend's sister showed us the room that used to be her's- apparently this ship-like place had been her dorm. And I think we were back in the auditorium-like place after that. For some reason, my friend's family couldn't leave, so I went off to look for my friend by myself. One of the blocked off exits was suddenly unblocked. It was an exit reached by a set of stairs or a ramp or some kind of ramp-stairs hybrid. I think maybe the ramp-stairs had been raised, like a drawbridge, thus preventing anyone from leaving through it. Then it lowered, and I guess I was able to leave through the exit...I remember taking the ramp-stairs, but I don't remember actually leaving through the exit in the dream. I was going somewhere I wasn't supposed to go.

Then the dream changed into a different "story." It became an observation dream, featuring an young boy and girl, both them were "cartoony." I'd call it a style you might see on a Nick Jr. educational type kiddie show. They were also going somewhere they weren't supposed to, and somehow this "section" or the dream was linked to the previous "section" even though it was different. The two kids were on a dirt road, and there were really tall palm trees around. There was something that looked like a tree-like stalk, a plant, very tall and bent...and it was also a traffic signal. Or sign or something...and I think the "light" changed and the sign pointed in one direction...so it was like a stoplight and old-fashioned sign at the same time...something like that.^^; The two kids went off in the direction the sign pointed, although they weren't supposed to, and I worried in a detached sort of way. Might have been because it was a story I was "watching" or because what the kids did actually affected my well-being somehow, even though I wasn't even present (in "observation dreams" I'm just a disembodied observer). Then, after they were some distance along the path, the sign behind them changed- that is, the bent stalk/plant/tree thing straightened up, then bent again so the sign pointed to another direction. I don't know why, but this development was Ominous and indicated Bad Worrisome Things.

And so Our Story begins...and ends, because I never dream complete stories. ^^; That dream with the two kids reminded me of a couple older, similar dreams...they were from a long time ago, but they both involved a brother and sister. In one of those the siblings were kids and on their own in some kind of dangerous situation. This hadn't occured to me before, but now I think that recent dream I just described sounds very Hansel and Gretel. It was never "said" or implied that they were siblings, but still...and if you look at the other dream with the actual brother and sister...yeah.^^; I can't get any meaning out of this Hansel and Gretel connection though. I mean, I guess I liked the story okay, but it was never a favorite or anything. And I was talking to a friend about fairy tales, so that's probably why I'm thinking about Hansel and Gretel now.

dreams and...stuff

...oh crap, it's almost been a month.^^; Don't be fooled by the 10/3 date, this actually being posted on 10/17. 10/3 is just when I started the draft. And then I forgot about it. Anyway, dreamness:

In one dream, my friends and I were going somewhere. I think I was talking to one of them on a cell phone. Yeah, that's it.^^;

There was another dream where I might have been "sharing space." I'm pretty sure I was; I remember seeing things around me, really experiencing the place, if that makes sense. In an observation dream it doesn't happen like that. There was a bunch of kids (I was sharing space with one of them). They were taking some kind of test. I can't remember what kind. It might have included a written portion, but I don't think it was *that* kind of test. The examiner was a bit of a bully. I think he was a large man, though the kid's perspective might have had something to do with that. There were several rounds of testing, and fewer and fewer kids would pass each round. I guess they were testing them to find the best ones. I think this was the dream that included a magic "bus" (a vehicle of some kind, anyway). I think the "bus" would have transported the final group of kids somewhere. I can't remember what the vehicle looked like, beyond it being large and brightly colored.

There was also a story dream, but I can't remember the story, only that I woke up at a crucial moment and I wished I could have stayed asleep long enough to finish it.^^;

There was also a Song of Ice and Fire inspired dream. I saw a portrait of Catelyn Stark. As she appeared at the end of A Storm of Swords. But it was, er, not accurately done. Yeah. Also, it looked almost as if it had been done by a Cubist painter.

Other stuff: I finished A Storm of Swords. I can't wait to see what new POVs we'll get in the next book. I don't want to get hardcover, but I'm too impatient.^^;

I've been playing Shadow Hearts: Covenant. It seems like a lot more people are playing it than played the original Shadow Hearts. Not really surprising since I kept seeing ads on the internet for SH:C. The Teen rating might have a bit to do with it too. I'm loving the game; I just finished the first disc.

This game sure has an, er, "interesting" assortment of characters. So far, characters that are directly important to the story are Yuri (duh, he's the hero), Karin, and Anastasia (as in Princess Anastasia, yes, the Russian princess). I like Yuri even more now than I did in the first game. Karin is proving to be rather, well, Female Lead-ish. Despite the skanky outfit, she had the potential to be cool,(a lieutenant instead of a white mage type!) but nooo.>_> She is also possibly the best the best female character in this game, and that makes me sad.^^; Anastasia can be funny but she's usually more on the annoying side. Geppetto seems like he's just there to fill the "old man" role Zhuzhen had in the first game, but I like him and his original weapon. I can't stand Lucia (I cringe whenever she speaks >_<) and she doesn't seem to have any reason to be there. Joachim also comes along just because, but that's okay because it's a very Joachim thing to do. Joachim rocks. XD I just got Kurando in my party, and he hasn't been around long enough for me to form an opinion of him yet. On the antagonists side, Rasputin actually made a pretty cool villain, if not a terribly original one. And I really like Nicolai, although he just lost a whole bunch of spiffy points with me after a certain event.^^;

Ah, memories

I have been a bad, bad girl with regards to my dream journal. Not that I can remember much about my dreams lately anyway. Here's an old, old dream (well, a couple of years old, I think) I found in my Hotmail saved drafts section (it was an e-mail I'd written to a friend). Or possibly two dreams. About Playstation RPG Persona 2. XD After all those FF7 dreams, now I post this...

One dream seemed to have Tatsuya and Katsuya living on an island. I think their family owned the island or something. They got into an argument of some sort, and I think Katsu left the island and Tatsu went to see Baofu (presumably also off the island). Then...I think Katsu sued Baofu for some reason related to Tatsuya? o_O The other part of the dream had Maya in it. I'm pretty sure the other characters were in it too, but I can't remember who specifically. 'Cept it was some alternate universe or something, because Maya didn't have her job at Kismet- she had some low paying job and had to struggle to make ends meet. She still had her positive attitide though. And Ulala was still her roomate. And Belladonna and Nameless were each seperately on the run from someone. Also, they were in love o_O;; Anyway, the other characters were helping them out. Nameless was hiding out at someone's house. Then Maya brought Belladonna over. I think she either knew that they knew each other but didn't know they were in love, or she didn't know they knew each other but thought they should meet since they were in similar situations.

In another dream, I was playing on the PS2 and staying up way later than I should have been (as per normal^^;) and I was on the phone with you at the same time. On the screen was some Persona 2 contact combo. I think I was describing the game to you as I was playing. This particular plot point of the game had to do with Anna and her father. Her father was a business man and part of some shadow cult, as were a bunch of other business people. They were only in it for money but then their plans turned on them somehow. Zombies attacked. Then I remembered I had to write character analysis for English, so I shut off the game. I had to do three, but "three" was "four" (dream logic). I was thinking that I should analyse Ulala, Lisa, Baofu, and Jun. Or maybe just Ulala, Baofu, and Jun, in the dream I had done five or so analyses eariler, and Lisa might've been included in those. I stood outside the bathroom door practicing (I had to present the analyses to the class). I had written notes for each of the characters, but I didn't think they were very presentable. I also tried to read a bit, the book was kind of Neverwhere-ish (Neverwhere= book by Neil Gaiman). In the book, I read about an angel whose task was to make people "see the light." "People" didn't necessarily mean human- it had tried, and failed, to recruit a dying sheep that had slit it's throat on a sharp railing. It then tried to recurit a man (Richard? He's the main character of Neverwhere)who couldn't see or hear it. The angel ended up yelling at him as he got on the bus, the doors closing behind him. Then I was too sleepy to keep reading, so I closed my door, which had been slightly open and changed (I had been wearing day clothes) into PJs. I reviewed my notes. My analysis of Baofu actually reflected someone else's opinion of him. I dunno, a literary critic or something. This someone else's opinion was that Baofu was an ass or had no ass or something. I wasn't really satisfied with this since I like Baofu and I *know* he has an ass (XD), but I had already written my notes and didn't want to redo them. I think the assignment was to come up with an assertion about each character and defend it, and I tried to come up with assertions for Ulala and Jun. I think I woke up before I could, though...

In that last dream, I think the distinction between "book" and "game" was kinda...blurred. Dream logic^^;

Otherness: I something like halfway between George R.R. Martin's A Storm of Swords. I still love the multiple points of view. I wonder how long this series will be. I looked up the next book,A Feast for Crows on Amazon; it's out in hardcover. I usually go for paperback, but I don't know if I'll be able to wait that long.^^; The title has me thinking "So who's gonna die in this one?" I started reading the blurb on Amazon but then caught myself. When I was not yet done with A Game of Thrones I read the back of A Clash of Kings in the store and got spoiled. Then I did the same with A Storm of Swords while I was still reading A Clash of Kings. I'm not making the same mistake again! XD
